Audio: Steven VanRoekel and Todd Park discuss the digital strategy

White House officials held a press call May 23 to discuss the launch of the Obama Administration's digital strategy (.pdf).

The strategy is "the launch of government as a platform," said Federal Chief Information Officer Steven VanRoekel. The key pillars of the plan are open data, shared platforms, reduced duplication, and citizen-centric mobile and web services, said VanRoekel.

In implementing the goals of the strategy, agencies will be assisted in part by innovators from the private sector, said Federal Chief Technology Officer Todd Park. In conjunction with the digital strategy, Park unveiled a new Presidential Innovation Fellows program, which will bring private-sector workers into federal agencies for focused "tours of duty" to help with certain projects.
