Audio: Hendricks talks NGEN
Next Generation Enterprise Network Program Director Capt. Shawn Hendricks spoke with reporters Oct. 28 following a presentation during an industry day held in Washington, D.C., on the massive $10 billion Navy Department procurement set to replace the Navy/Marine Corps Internet (which persists in a modified form under the Continuity-Of-Service Contract).
The Navy released Sept. 30 a draft request for proposals (.pdf) and remains on track to release the final RFP on Dec. 21, Hendricks said. During the industry day, Hendricks stressed that innovation will have to occur as part of the Navy's normal 4 year cycle of technology refresh.
"It can be done, it'll just take longer than if I had a big slug of money to throw at it," he said.
