David Madden, director of the Milsatcom Systems Directorate at the Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center in Los Angeles, spoke with reporters Dec. 15 to give an update on the status of the Advanced Extremely High Frequency-1 satellite. AEHF-1 came in danger of failing to achieve geosynchronous orbit after an on-board thruster shut down prematurely following its Aug. 14, 2010 launch, but it is now successfully progressing through initial phases of on-orbit testing, Madden said.
