Audio - Air Force officials on why the GAO is pessimistic on GPS
Air Force officials held a press availability with reporters Sept. 24 following a report from the Government Accountability Office earlier that month warning that the Global Positioning Satellite system could drop below 24 orbiters, the minimum required to ensure accuracy and availability.
The GAO's conclusions were too pessimistic, Air Force officials said, adding that current plans to ready the first GPS III satellite for a 2014 launch are on track.
