Another e-Verify delay

The Obama administration is trying to implement e-Verify, the employment verification system for contractors, but they are delaying it again--for the fourth time.

These delays cannot help but frustrate IT executives across federal agencies who are trying to keep their projects and contractors on time and in order. Jennifer Kerber, vice president for federal and homeland security policy for TechAmerica, told its organization's members in an email that Obama wants to review the rule, according to an article in Washington Technology.

Under former-President George W. Bush's executive order, 168,000 federal contractors are supposed to submit Social Security numbers for new hires and current employees to make sure they are legally eligible to work. But the rule has been delayed as the new administration took over and started reviewing things.

This is one more rule written after the 9-11 terrorist attacks. It is intended to try to identify workers who did not have a legal right to work in the United States.
