Another delay for FBI's Sentinel

The FBI is planning to launch the Sentinel electronic information and case management system soon. A report released this week by the Justice Department's inspector general, however, reveals there is a three-month delay for finishing the second of Sentinel's four contract phases, pushing back the finishing date to September 2010.

The $451 million project has raised the IG's alarms in the past. However, the IG now says the revised schedule is more realistic.

Once completed, Sentinel will fill a void, dealing with the management of records, workflow and evidence, as well has making it possible to search, report and share information.

Despite the latest delay, the FBI still estimates the project will cost $451 million to complete, and nothing more.
