Provides Agencies Operating in Cloud, Virtual and Hosted Environments a Secure and Compliant Way to Share Information Electronically

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Accellion, Inc. today announced that the Accellion Secure File Transfer Cryptographic Module has achieved Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 Level 1 certification from the Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The certification assures federal, state, and local agencies that the information they share via Accellion Managed File Transfer is done so in a manner that meets the NIST’s strict security and compliance guidelines.

With completion of FIPS 140-2 Level 1 certification, Accellion now offers FIPS 140-2 compliant secure file transfer solutions for both on-premise and off-premise, virtual, cloud and hosted deployments. In addition Accellion offers a FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certified Accellion Secure File Transfer physical appliance.

Following the Senate’s recent passage of the 2010 Telework Enhancement Act which expands the number of federal employees eligible to telework, the ability to quickly and securely exchange information electronically is greatly elevated. In addition the House recently passed the Secure Federal File Sharing Act that prohibits the use of peer-to-peer file sharing software by Government employees. Accellion Managed File Transfer offers a secure and compliant way for public and private sectors to share information that is easy to use and prevents data leakage at the file transfer source.

“Growing concerns over security risks associated with sharing information through unsecure methods like P2P, Skype and courier services are driving demand for Accellion secure file transfer,” said Yorgen Edholm, president and CEO of Accellion. “Accellion enables government agencies to overcome the hurdles that have stalled electronic collaboration by providing the necessary layers of security and compliance required today. Encryption, authentication and comprehensive file tracking and reporting capabilities are just some of the features that make Accellion the ideal choice for government agencies.”

About FIPS Certification

To achieve FIPS 140-2 validation, products are tested under the FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) 140-2 publication guidelines by CMVP (Cryptographic Module Validation Program), which is jointly managed by the National Institute of Standards and Testing (NIST) and the Canadian Communications Security Establishment (CSE). The CMVP is intended to make sure that products seeking validation correctly implement all FIPS-approved cryptographic standards — errors or deviations are not permitted.
